Press Release Summary = Widespread use and a thriving industry the driving forces behind petition to spell \"email\" without a hyphen
Press Release Body = NEW YORK and Monterrey, MEXICO, May 16, 2007 - The Email Experience Council is standing up for email and rallying marketers, publishing houses and software providers around the world to pledge to spell the word \"email\" without a hyphen by signing its \'Hyphens Equal Disrespect\' petition.
The significance of this simple, yet historical convention is explained by Jeanniey Mullen, Founder of this international organization, and Worldwide Executive Director and Senior Partner of Email Marketing at OgilvyOne Worldwide. \"Students of language know that as new terms become accepted by the mainstream they evolve into shorter words, single words and shed their capitalization and hyphenation,\" she says. \"Words like \'Web site\' and \'on-line\' over time have become \'website\' and \'online\' as people became more comfortable with them. \'Electronic mail\' has followed a similar acceptance arc, becoming \'E-mail\' and then \'e-mail.\'\"
\"It\'s now time for \'the word\' to take its final step and become simply \"email,\" signifying the ubiquity of this form of communication, which is now used by 97% of all consumers and 94% of marketers, according to Forrester Research,\" said Mullen.
More than 130 individuals representing publishers, software companies and email marketing practitioners have already stepped forward to support this initiative.
